New Zealand's premier dairy conference has wrapped up in Invercargill after what organisers called an outstandingly successful three days.

South Island Dairy Event organising committee chairman Paul Marshall said while he did not want to blow his own trumpet, the organising committee had pulled off a fantastic event.

They had record crowds of about 550 through the doors and Marshall credited the flexibility of the new Stadium Southland for that success.

However, it was not just about the numbers but also the quality of information transfer, he said.

Day one and two focused on the physical and financial aspects of dairy farming and recognising how to deal with risk and the rewards from that, while day three centred on the quality of people and management, he said.

In a break from tradition, there was also an address on making sure dairy farmers and their families were feeling OK, and if not questioning why. The level of audience engagement in that topic was huge, he said.

The event was a huge undertaking, requiring more than 400 man hours to organise, he said.
