Submissions are being called for on a proposed wastewater treatment scheme in Curio Bay.

The Southland District Council has applied to Environment Southland for resource consent to upgrade the Curio Bay Camping Ground sewerage scheme, with potential to extend the proposal to other properties in the community.

The council wants to discharge the treated wastewater into a drainage ditch.

Southland District Council water and waste manager Ian Evans said the first stage of the development would provide for the Curio Bay Camping Ground and reserve, but could be extended to the rest of the community.

Submissions must be sent to Environment Southland before 5pm on July 31.
