Here they come, marching as bold as brass
Invercargill's CBD came alive with music as brass bands strutted their stuff down the city's streets.
The New Zealand brass band championships, in Invercargill this week, took to the central business district yesterday, delighting crowds of onlookers.
The bands, from throughout the country, pranced, danced and blew their way down the city streets to everything from Michael Jackson's Thriller to more traditional marching tunes. The music was a hit with the crowds.
Ten-year-old Sophia Rofe watched the bands with her grandmother and said it was great to hear the different music.
Five hundred band members from 26 bands suited up for the event and made their way down Spey, Kelvin and Tay streets to the Civic Theatre. It was one of the many events in the lineup for the championships this weekend.
Band competitions continue at the Civic Theatre today, starting at 8.30am.
