The Invercargill woman charged with keeping too many cats will appear in a judge-alone trial in September.

Averil Maree Gardiner was scheduled to appear in the Invercargill District Court today but has been rescheduled to appear on September 18.

Gardiner has pleaded not guilty to failing to reduce the number of animals and creating a nuisance under the Health Act 1956.

She allegedly owns 27 cats. Under new bylaws introduced by the Invercargill City Council, Gardiner must reduce the number of cats to three.
