Four people were taken to hospital this morning after the car they were travelling in rolled near Mokotua, Southland.
A police communications spokesman said emergency services were called to the Gorge Rd-Invercargill highway just before 5am, after a vehicle rolled just outside of Mokotua.
St John Ambulance confirmed four people were taken to Southland Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Emergency services are warning motorists to be careful on the icy roads.
New Zealand Fire Service communications spokesman Daryl Ball said drivers had to be careful on frosty mornings.
"We are still in winter driving conditions and people need to take care," Ball said.
"It just seems people are not really thinking that the road might be a little slick."
