A police focus on burglaries has nabbed a serial thief.
Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle, of Invercargill, said a 21-year-old man was arrested at the weekend for a raft of historic offences and faced several charges of burglary. The man was linked to several offences in the Kingswell area.
And burglars continued to keep police busy, Windle said. Homes and garages were targeted at the weekend in Lindisfarne, Leet and Ythan streets. The thieves had broken locks and smashed windows to gain entry. Tools, a washing machine, a clothes dryer and other items were taken.
Meanwhile, a routine traffic stop on Sunday night netted a 33-year-old man who was wanted by police. A search of the car he was driving, a Nissan Skyline, resulted in police finding a large amount of scrap metal, Windle said.
A house associated with the man was also searched and police found a tool box and $10,000 of tools, more scrap metal and engineering equipment.
Two burglary victims were contacted and reunited with their property, Windle said.
The man will appear in the Invercargill District Court today.
