Two would-be burglars failed to break into a Dunedin ATM machine yesterday.

Two burglars used a stolen ute as a battering ram but failed to get any cash out of an automated teller machine (ATM) at a North Dunedin petrol station about 1.40am yesterday, police told the Otago Daily Times.

A dark grey Toyota Hilux, stolen on Sunday, was driven into the automatic glass door of the Caltex Valley petrol station in North Rd.

Two hooded offenders were recorded on CCTV cameras unsuccessfully trying to break into the ATM inside the outlet, police said.
