The latest movies on the big screen in Roxburgh are a step closer after the Teviot Valley Community Board yesterday agreed to a $5000 grant from its general reserves fund.
The Roxburgh Entertainment Centre Marketing and Promotions Group had applied to the board for assistance in raising the $100,000 necessary to fund the digital equipment needed to show current movies.
The funds would also help the group's bid to be recognised by the Guiness Book of Records as the longest continuous site of movie screenings in the world.
An 1897 newspaper clipping shows a screening was held then.
The group was seeking further assistance from local trusts.
