Police name Central Otago burnoff victim
Police have named the man who died in a burnoff on Wednesday night.
Peter Gerard Grayland, 52, of Alexandra, was part of a two-man team conducting a controlled burnoff at Northburn Station, near Cromwell.
Sergeant Simon Paget, of Cromwell, said the victim was working alone when his co-worker lost contact with him during the burnoff.
The co-worker became concerned about Greyland and called emergency services to the scene.
There were no suspicious circumstances but police were investigating the cause of the Greyland’s death on behalf of the coroner, Paget said.
Police are working with the Otago Rural Fire Authority and Work Safe New Zealand.
