A steady stream of betters invested on the six race meetings on which the Invercargill office of the Totalizator Agency Board accepted bets on the first day of its operations yesterday. The manager of the office, Mr T. N. Forde, said last night that about £1320 had been invested during the day.

Officials said that the day's operations had been carried out smoothly.

Punters had no serious grouches, although several made suggestions which they thought would help investors. Several betters suggested that the coloured lists on which the numbers of the horses in the various races appear, could be printed in larger type. The office will re-open for business at 8.30 o'clock this morning.

Telephone Bets

The Invercargill office is now accepting telephone bets on meetings on which the board is operating. To take advantage of this service a better is required to make a minimum deposit of £2.
