Environment Southland has shelved several of its education projects as a cost-cutting measure.
The environmental management committee yesterday voted to end the youth project, the sustainable living programme and the proposed activity of an air quality education project for 2009-10 to 2011-12.
It will also stop sending birthday cards to "Brucie's Buddies" 2000 members once stock runs out and will not be appointing an extra environmental education officer from 2011-12 onwards.
However, Enviroschools would remain.
Environmental information manager John Prince said the programmes were the casualty of reworked budgets in a Long Term Council Community Plan workshop.
The revised budget will save $54,622 for 2009/10, $72,971 for 2010/11 and $121,674 for 2011/12.
