This weekend looks set to be a celebration of motorsport in Southland.
With the Burt Munro Challenge kicking off today, Southlanders and visitors to the region will have the chance to sample some top racing through to the weekend.
And riding on the back of the challenge is Street Machines Southland, which is using the weekend as an opportunity to hold a fundraiser for the club.
Club committee member Chris Burke said up to 250 of the region's finest classic cars, from the early 1920s, would be on display at Ascot Park Raceway on Saturday.
"It should be a real celebration of motorsport right across Southland," Mr Burke said.
The club felt the weekend was a chance to make the most of the influx of people into the city for the Burt Munro.
At 3.30pm all cars would convoy for a cruise around Northern Southland.
No pre-registration to the event was required. Entry was free for cars and drivers, and children under 15. It would be a $5 charge for everyone else.
