Airport sealing not watertight

The $3.7 million resealing job of the Invercargill Airport runway has hit a couple of rocky patches.
Invercargill Airport manager Barry Bouton yesterday said about 200m of the 1400m runway had so far been resealed with an overlay.
However, there had initially been issues in getting the correct asphalt mix and now moisture was seeping through the tarmac surface on the outsides of the runway, he said.
Despite the problems, aircraft were landing on the runway as normal, the problem was fixable and being worked through and it would cost "almost nothing" extra, he said.
Mr Bouton said he was confident the runway overlay would be finished by the end of next month as planned, provided the weather co-operated.
The work was being funded in an arrangement between Air New Zealand, Invercargill Airport and the airport's part owner, the city council-owned holding company Holdco.
