Queenstown police still want to talk to the driver of a white car who might have seen a fatal bus crash on Fernhill Rd last month.

Taiwanese visitor Hsiu-Yuch Lee, 48, was hit by a bus about 9.20pm on February 16 and later died in hospital.

Constable Aaron Redaelli said Queenstown police had finished their investigations but wanted to speak to the driver of the white car.

"The car was travelling up Fernhill Rd at around the same time as the Connectabus was travelling down," he said. "It was being followed by a taxi van, who saw the vehicle flash its lights on high-beam at two groups of people on the Fernhill Rd footpath."

Constable Ken Patterson, of the Invercargill serious crash unit, said the bus involved in the crash returned to the site to carry out tests.

Done at the same time as the crash happened, they included up to four skid tests and the testing of the bus lights on a mannequin positioned on the road. Tests measuring ambient light and visibility were also carried out, he said.

The bus was believed to be in a good state of repair with no serious faults at the time of the crash, Mr Patterson said.

The Invercargill serious crash unit report would be completed as soon as possible but, because of a heavy workload, no timeframe could be given on when that would be, Mr Patterson said.
