Colonial Bakery has top buns – hot cross buns, that is.
The Invercargill bakery has been placed fourth out of 17 bakeries in the South Island to enter the Champion flour hot cross bun competition held on Thursday in Christchurch.
Colonial Bakery owner Brian Booth said the secret to perfect hot cross buns was using good-quality ingredients and serving them as fresh as possible.
"It's a very satisfying product to make. And they look so nice sitting on the (bakery) shelf."
Mr Booth said they baked the buns for the competition early on Thursday and flew them up to Christchurch for midday judging.
Colonial Bakery was the only bakery south of Canterbury to be placed in the competition.
The grand South Island winner was Kidds Cakes and Bakery in Christchurch.
