The installation of a public toilet in south Invercargill has again been delayed, which was "absolutely bloody ridiculous", a city councillor said this week.
South Invercargill residents have been waiting five years for a public toilet in their shopping centre and the wait just got longer.
City council roading manager Tom Greenwood said landowner Foodstuffs wanted the council to be responsible for any damage inflicted in the area of the proposed public toilet, including to its New World building, because the public toilet would be on the site.
Speaking at a community services committee meeting on Monday, Mr Greenwood said the council could not agree to such a proposal. "How can you say the damage was caused because the toilet is there?" he asked.
Cr Lindsay Abbott said it was "absolutely bloody ridiculous".
Cr Wayne Harpur said the council might have to seek a new site.
Foodstuffs general manager of property and retail development Roger Davidson said a month ago the company hoped to give its approval for the public toilet in a couple of weeks.
