Contingency plans will be discussed by hospital management today as industrial action by Southland Hospital's medical radiation technologists looks set to continue during Easter Weekend.
Association of Professional and Executive Employees (Apex) Southland delegate Bernadette Gourley said the union had issued the hospital with rolling- strike notices, and the strike would continue through the Easter break. Union members are fighting against the district health boards' nil pay increase offer and calling for a 3 per cent increase.
The standoff, which involves union members nationwide, had been ongoing since last month when negotiations between the health boards and union broke down, Mrs Gourley said. About 20 medical radiation staff at Southland Hospital were involved in the action, she said.
Southland Hospital chief operating officer Lexie O'Shea said the hospital had contingency plans to manage the industrial action, but a meeting would be held today to discuss plans.
