Dual services will be held today to mark the life of a 35-year-old woman who died in Dunedin Hospital four days after a two-car collision near Otautau last Saturday.

Su-san Villones, a Filipino national based in Drummond, died on Tuesday after her 41-year-old husband made the agonising decision to end her life support.

Winton priest Father Ronelo Resco, of St Thomas Aquinas Parish, said Ms Villones was a regular at Sunday Mass.

"She was a deeply religious woman."

As well as being a devout Catholic, Ms Villones was also an active member of The Southland Filipino Community Club and its website yesterday bore condolence messages from other members of the club.

Father Ronelo believed the couple had children but they were still in the Philippines.

He said Ms Villone's body was at the Filipino Church in Dunedin where her funeral mass attended by her husband, who is recuperating in Lumsden, would be held today.

However, the club was holding its own mass to celebrate her life and to allow the Southland Filipino community to mourn, he said.

The mass, led by Father Ronelo will be held at the church of St Thomas Aquinas, on Great North Rd, Winton from 6pm.

Ms Villones was the passenger in one of two cars that collided on the corner of Lindsay Calcium Rd and the Otautau-Drummond road, Isla Bank, about 10.30pm on August 14.

She suffered head and chest injuries and was taken to Southland Hospital before being transferred to Dunedin Hospital the next day.

Three others were also injured in the collision, Ms Villone's husband and the two occupants of the second car, a 28 and 19-year-old.
