A 28-year-old Queenstown man facing 12 charges has been remanded in custody after being found heavily intoxicated and asleep in the middle of a Queenstown street at 2.30am yesterday.
Acting Sergeant Blair Duffy said the man was arrested for alleged breach of bail conditions, which included no drinking, and a breach of his curfew. He appeared in the Queenstown District Court before a Justice of the Peace yesterday morning and was denied bail and remanded in custody to appear again in Queenstown on Monday.
Mr Duffy said the man was discovered by a member of the public, who called police. He is facing a raft of charges, including alleged drink driving, dangerous driving and an assault on police.
Police were then called to a Queenstown residential address at 8.45am by a landlord where a tenant was reported by a neighbour to be intoxicated.
The tenants were meant to be moving out of the address yesterday. Police attended with the landlord and initially the situation was amicable, until the female tenant allegedly slapped the landlord.
She was arrested for threatening language and spent much of yesterday "sleeping it off" in the Queenstown police cells, Mr Duffy said.
