A 42-year-old man has undergone surgery at Southland Hospital after he was shot at close-range with a shotgun in Invercargill this morning.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.
Detective Sergeant Dave Nelson, of Invercargill CIB, said police were investigating after the shooting at a Bamborough St house about 12.30am.
Emergency services were called a short time later with the shot man taken to Southland Hospital were he underwent surgery, Mr Nelson said.
His condition and the nature of his injuries are not known and police are not commenting on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The incident sparked an armed offenders squad call-out to a south Invercargill house where the 41-year-old alleged shooter was arrested and taken into police custody without incident, Mr Nelson said.
The man will appear in the Invercargill District Court on Monday, he said.
Police detectives, a scene-of-crime officer and police photographer are still at the scene of the shooting as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, Mr Nelson asked anyone in the Bamborough St area who witnessed anything at the time of the shooting to contact Invercargill police.
