Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean has pulled her bill to extend Easter trading before it could be "turfed out" in Parliament yesterday.
The Shop Trading Hours Act Repeal (Waitaki Easter trading) was to have its first reading after it was drawn out of the members' ballot on August 5.
After going through the numbers it was apparent it was not going to get the support to survive the first reading, Ms Deans said.
"Labour MPs in particular weren't happy with the bill," she said.
A refined bill would be ready to go before Parliament before the next members' day on September 22.
A supplementary order paper would be added to the bill that would provide worker protection and the right for workers to refuse to work on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, she said.
If passed the bill would allow retailers within the Waitaki electorate to trade on the two days.
