Hundreds of people are expected to flock to City Impact Church Queenstown's massive annual Spring Giveaway on Saturday, a free-for-all giveaway of good-quality furniture, appliances and clothing.
Church senior pastor Daryl Watson said the reality was there were a lot of people in the Wakatipu who were struggling with work, business and family commitments.
The church launched the project, whereby people donate quality gear they can spare to help someone in need, three years ago to bless the community.
More than 700 people flocked to the Hansen Rd church in Frankton for the event last September and, with economic times still tough, Mr Watson expected similar numbers on Saturday.
"There's a lot of hurt out in the community."Already generous donations of quality appliances, goods and even near-new sofas had arrived at the church and residents were being encouraged to have a spring clean, find something to donate and "start the new season off with a good deed".
"It's an opportunity for the church to facilitate the generosity of Queenstown people and the wider community," Mr Watson said.
A pharmacy had donated goods and bags of clothing, appliances and other goods were all starting to pour in.
Major items of value would be put in a major draw on Saturday and not just given to the first person on the scene, to be fair.
Items could be donated up until 11am on Saturday and throughout this week at the church, opposite the Queenstown Events Centre.
Donation buckets will also be circulating on the day for those who wanted to donate to the Canterbury Earthquake Relief Fund.
The event runs from 1pm to 3pm.
