Fairies, superheroes and pirates took over the Terrace Kindergarten in Alexandra yesterday after it held a dress-up day to raise funds for kindergartens in Christchurch affected by earthquakes.
The Terrace Kindergarten head teacher Coralie Reid said 50 children dressed up and donated money after the children decided after a discussion with teachers it would be a great way to raise funds for other children.
"It's hit home with many of the children; a lot have family and friends in Christchurch," Ms Reid said.
The kindergarten raised $192 after the Central Otago Kindergarten Association matched the kindergarten dollar for dollar.
Association manager Angela Jacobson said the fundraiser was a great way to teach children to share and show sympathy for the miseries people in Christchurch were facing.
The funds would be donated to the Christchurch Kindergarten Association.
The kindergarten held fire drills every month and earthquake drills ever term but had held three earthquake drills this week.
