Flight levies not backed

Flight levies to help fund tourism were not widely supported within the industry, according to Tourism Industry Association chief executive Tim Cossar.
Tourism Minister Damien O'Connor raised the idea of a small flight surcharge while addressing the Tourism Industry conference on Monday.
"We need to find a mechanism to allow tourism to grow," he said.
"Charging incoming international visitors is one option." Mr O'Connor also announced an extra $2.8 million funding to help implement the ministry's new Tourism Strategy 2015 but admitted more money was needed.
Yesterday, Mr Cossar told The Southland Times he was willing to discuss the option but most of the tourism industry was not in favour of targeted taxes such as flight levies.
"The industry thinks targeted tax is not the way," he said.
