It's all on for Crank Up this morning, as the second day of the 25th anniversary celebration for the Edendale Vintage Machinery Club continues.
Following yesterday's event that brought out thousands to Edendale to walk through paddocks crammed with tractors, vintage cars, motorbikes and whirring engines, the programme that begins again at 10am today includes Irish Dancers, marching teams, stunt riders and a kite flying demonstration.
This year's show has featured the 110 years of International Harvester Company display alongside Jag E-type and Saloon cars, New Zealand-made vehicles and a tractor pull.
Kennington farmer Robert Herman said he had been to every Crank Up for the last 25 years, and every year it seemed to get bigger and better.
''I haven't missed one,'' he said, while talking to fellow vintage tractor club member Nigel Cathcart on a break during the parade. ''It's a day off the farm.''
For those not as enthusiastic about machinery, display tents and craft stalls with gift items and specialty food items such as honey, cupcakes and cheeses much of it sourced from around the region kept people busy.
High winds during the day kept some participants huddled in their cars, enjoying the views of the parades and demonstrations, while kids got to burn off energy on the bouncy castles, slides, and mini jeeps.
The festivities continue today, and special guests Levi ''the Mega Strong Man'' and former All Black and coach Alex Wyllie who arrived by helicopter in the main ring yesterday morning will return at 1.45 pm to circulate in the crowds. The Grand Parade led this year by the Wyndham and Districts Highland Pipe Band will finish off the event this afternoon at 4.15pm.
