Cardrona's bra fence now 'Bradrona'
Cardrona's infamous bra fence has been cheekily rebranded "Bradrona" to raise money for breast cancer.
A pink sign and collection box was put up a week ago beside the fence, which now runs along the driveway to The Cardrona, a quad bike and horse trek business at the bottom of the Snow Farm Rd.
By today it was full, raising nearly $200 for the Breast Cancer Foundation.
The box has been emptied and the money was being banked.
The Cardrona tour guide Kelly Spaans was delighted with the result and says the sign and collection box are there to stay.
"If we could make a couple of hundred dollars a week for the Breast Cancer Foundation, how cool is that?"
Spaans and her partner Sean Colbourne took over voluntary bra fence "guardianship" when they began operating The Cardrona about two years ago.
They shifted the fence from beside the Cardrona Valley Rd to their driveway in November because it was being regularly targeted by unknown scissor-wielding fence objectors who apparently preferred a bare fence.
Spaans said the bra fence's Facebook page drew more than 10,000 "likes" in 24 hours after the last garments were removed in November.
Many fence fans were "revolted" by the thought of people removing the bras and she began receiving parcels of replacement bras, she said.
Spaans said there had been no more attacks on the fence since it was moved about 100m down the road to the internal driveway fence.
"The Bradrona name's been thrown around a little bit since. It is more of a dig at the the thieves. If we named the valley Bradrona, they would hate that," she said.
