A Wanaka resident unable to find his house keys after a night out came to the attention of police last night after his neighbours heard a window smashing at a property on Hedditch St.
Senior Sergeant Allen Grindall said police found the intoxicated occupier inside the home at about 11pm. The man told police he had lost his keys so decided to smash a window to get inside.
Meanwhile, Queenstown police arrested a 21-year-old American woman outside the Mountaineer Building on Rees St last night for urinating in public.
Sergeant Steve Watt said the woman, who was caught squatting on the footpath and relieving herself, was released on a precharge warning.
An intoxicated 18-year-old Invercargill man, who had an argument with friends he had travelled to Queenstown with, spent last night in the cells at Queenstown police station. Mr Watt said the young man was extremely inebriated and was taken back to the station to sober up. Mr Watt said he was released at 7.30am this morning feeling much better.
A 21-year-old German man was arrested at Fresh Choice supermarket at 8.30pm last night after he tried to steal $15 worth of warm chicken. The man will appear in the Queenstown District Court on June 18.
Two motorists reversing out of opposite carparks on Church Street, failed to notice each other and collided at 11.20pm last night. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.
