Heavyweights from Local Government New Zealand will act as mediators at a special meeting of the Bluff Community Board next week.
The board has been racked with dissent in recent months with in-fighting among board members and public slanging matches occurring with residents.
Board chairwoman Jan Mitchell said yesterday she had asked Invercargill City Council chief executive Richard King to arrange mediation for the board. As a result, the board was holding an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday in Bluff.
Local Government NZ vice-president John Forbes and chief executive Malcolm Alexander would be at the meeting for "mediation discussions under the heading of board relationships", Mrs Mitchell said.
The board members would decide whether the mediation talks would be held in public or behind closed doors.
