All nine of the candidates seeking election to the Invercargill City Council seat vacated by Jackie Kruger have been invited to share their ideas at a public meeting in the city on August 2.
Southland National Council of Women president Margaret Cook said the group believed in helping people make an informed vote, and it also believed in giving candidates a chance to talk. Each candidate will speak for three minutes and then all will answer questions.
The Meet the Candidates night for the Invercargill City Council election will be held at the Windsor Community Church from 7pm to 9pm. There is a gold coin entry and supper to follow.
The candidates for the council are Rebecca Amundsen, Hunter Andrews, Allan Arnold, Karen Arnold, Steve Broad, Debbie Jamieson, Carl Heenan, Charlie Te Au and Lindsay Thomas.
Postal voting follows the distribution of voting papers to city council ratepayers next month.
