AOS callout in Dunedin

A man has been arrested following an Armed Offenders callout in Mornington, Dunedin on Sunday morning.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of the Southern District Command Centre, said a 37-year-old man was charged with assault and unlawful possession of a firearm after the callout about 12.30am

The man had been drinking and had access to firearms, Benn said.

The AOS was called as a precautionary measure, Benn said.

The man remained in police custody.

He was expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court on Monday.
