The Dipton Fire Service spent more than three hours trying to put out a fire in a hay barn last night.
The service was called just before midnight to the Hishon Rd, South Hillend property.
Fire Service senior communications spokeswoman Lyn Crosson said the shed was fully involved when firefighters arrived and there was concern the fire was threatening nearby sheds.
The owner of the property used a digger to help pull the hay apart, she said.
‘‘It wasn’t a big job but it took a long time to dampen down because the dry hay was a nuisance,’’ she said.
Winton police are investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, emergency services were called when a motorbike went off the road in Orepuki last night.
Ms Crosson said the Orepuki fire service was called to assist police and ambulance when the single motorbike fell off Falls Creek road.
It was not serious and the driver was taken to Southland hospital, she said.
