An Australian tourist was kicked in the head while he was on the ground in a central Queenstown alleyway last night.
Sergeant Mark Gill, of Queenstown, said a 28-year-old Irish national living in Queenstown was in a drunken fight with the tourist in Zephyr bar at 2.45am.
Both men were removed by staff and continued fighting in the alleyway, where the Australian man fell to the ground.
The offender kicked the victim to the head while he was lying on the ground.
"There’s never an excuse for that behaviour," Mr Gill said.
The Irish man was charged with assault and is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court.
