Invercargill police are investigating a series of thefts from cars in Otatara and Sandy Point, which happened during the day.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dave McKenzie said six reports had been received of cars being broken into, in Fosbender Park and the Daffodil Bay area, between 10am and 4pm on Friday and Saturday.
All the cars were locked at the time, but the offenders smashed windows or tampered with door locks to gain entry to the vehicles, he said.
A significant amount of personal property was taken from the cars, and a police officer travelling to work on Saturday afternoon found some near Marama Ave South, in Otatara, which had been identified as coming from the cars broken into, he said.
The public was reminded to lock their vehicles and to store personal items out of view, he said.
