More than 200 young scientists will set up their projects for judging at the NZ Aluminium Smelters Southland Science and Technology Fair today.

The annual event, at the Ascot Park Hotel, is open to year 5-13 students and will begin with setup and judging at 1.15pm.

The fair will be open to the public tomorrow 5pm-7pm, Thursday 10am-7pm and Friday 10am-3pm.

The prizegiving will be held on Friday at 5pm.

The winner will represent the region at the national event, "Realise the Dream", in Wellington in December.
