Just six weeks after celebrating her 105th birthday, the Teviot Valley's oldest resident died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday night.
Lily Gall, who had never married, had since her retirement lived independently at Ettrick close to extended family, until February this year when a fall put her first in hospital and then into the Teviot Valley Rest Home.
Family spokesman Brian Pringle said Miss Gall had enjoyed her time at the home with the other residents and up until this past week was up and about each day.
"Her heart was getting weaker this week and she did not get out of bed, and she simply did not wake up yesterday (Thursday) morning" Mr Pringle said.
The funeral for the former Gore Hospital matron will be held at the Teviot Union Church at 1.30pm on Tuesday before her burial at the Ettrick cemetery.
