The sun shone and fresh snow fell on southern skifields in time for the last day of the season yesterday.
After a patchy winter, skifields enjoyed late-season snow last month and this month in Queenstown and Wanaka.
NZ Ski-run The Remarkables enjoyed 5cm of fresh snow at the weekend while Coronet Peak closed yesterday after a 3cm dusting on Saturday.
Cardrona Alpine Resort also shut up shop a week after Treble Cone and picked up many Wanaka-based boarders and skiers for closing day.
Cardrona sales and marketing manager Nadia Ellis said the skifield had one of its strongest seasons, with an increase in overall visitors and Australian holidaymakers.
"For us it was a fantastic end to the season with blue sky and lots of people." Late season snow dumps in time for school holidays helped boost the visitor numbers, she said.
