A helicopter has been called to a man with a head injury who has been removed from a vehicle crashed over a bank in the Kawarau Gorge.
Cromwell police Sergeant Simon Paget said the unidentified man was "very unwell".
His vehicle was found about 15m over a steep bank near the Roaring Meg power station. The man has been carried on a stretcher from the vehicle.
Contractors working in the gorge discovered the Nissan Cube about lunch time today after investigating a sign that had been knocked down.
It was not known how long the crashed vehicle had been there but it was believed the man was the only occupant.
Fire, police and ambulance are all in attendance at the scene.
