Milford Sound is open for business after the closure of the Milford Rd since Friday.
The road was opened at 12.20pm today, when a single-lane road was completed around the massive landslide.
NZ Transport Agency area manager Peter Robinson said the news was sure to be welcomed by both tourists and tour operators.
The Milford Rd would be under full traffic control to enable slip clearance work to continue, Mr Robinson said.
Motorists could expect traffic delays of up to 30 minutes and should factor this into their travel plans.
Staff at the slip site would take their rest breaks around the peak traffic flow times to minimise disruptions to road users, he said.
The road would be closed to all traffic between 5pm and 10am so workers could operate heavy machinery and continue with blasting to shift rocks.
The NZ Transport Agency still had to clear the slip before the Milford Rd could be fully re-opened, Mr Robinson said.
