Two cars collided in Alexandra on Saturday afternoon opposite Pioneer Park.

The crash happened outside the Alexandra Market after midday.

An eyewitness said it appeared one car failed to give-way, which resulted in the two cars T-boning outside the Mitre 10 store and ending up at right angles on the Centennial Avenue and Shannon St corner.

Firefighters had to remove the door off one car to free an injured woman and pull her out.

It is understood she was transported by ambulance to hospital.

Occupants in the hatch-back appeared uninjured.

No further details are available.
