Nevis River hearing continues
Day two of the three week Environment Court hearing to decide whether the Nevis River could eventually be dammed began today.
Legal counsel for the Central Otago District Council, Jane MacDonald, opened proceedings by saying the resource consent process was the only appropriate realm for a "full and proper consider of whether damming should occur on the Nevis River."
It was for this reason the council was opposed to amending the existing Water Conservation Order, which could prohibit damming or diversion of the river, she said.
