The Environment Court hearing over whether Pioneer Generation should retain the right to apply for resource consent for a future ''conceptual'' dam ended in Queenstown today.

Judge Jon Jackson reserved his decision and directed all lawyers representing the parties involved to submit their written closing submissions by dates between November 21 to December 5.

The hearing, originally scheduled for three weeks was cut down to two.

A unanimous decision by parties to agree to the entire Nevis Valley being reclassified from a special natural landscape to outstanding natural landscape probably helped speed up proceedings, and Judge Jackson thanked all involved for their ''expedition'' which he said was not usual in such a hearing.
