Police are  analysing security camera footage after a burglary at the Northern Tavern in the early hours of this morning.

Sergeant Fred Shandley, of Invercargill, said two men used a piece of concrete to smash a window in a doorway to gain entry to the St Andrew St bar, at about 4.30am.

Police were going through "good video footage" to try to identify the pair, who stole five bottles of spirits, Mr Shandley said.

"It’s a timely reminder to similar premises to ensure that they have adequate CCTV footage (on site)," he said.

After entering the bottle store and stealing alcohol, the pair ran from the scene, he said.

Police wanted to speak to anyone who may have noticed anything unusual or suspicious in the area before or after the time of the burglary, Mr Shandley said.

Anyone with information should contact the Invercargill police or the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
