Youths arrested after alleged break-in attempt
A 16-year-old will appear in the Invercargill Youth Court today after an attempted break-in was thwarted by police.
Acting senior sergeant Dave Kennelly said two teenage boys, aged 14 and 16, were apprehended after attempting to break-in to a Richmond home on Monday.
‘‘Fortunately the address they targeted was secure and a vigilant member of the public reported seeing them to police,’’ he said.
The incident was a timely reminder for people to ensure their homes and garages were properly secured, as the attempted burglary came on the heels of half a dozen or so in the Richmond and Glengarry areas in the last week, he said.
Cash in particular had been taken from houses, while tools and a bike were among the items taken from garages, he said.
