MetService forecasts rain, cooler temperaturesALANA DIXON
Make the most of the sunshine today, Southland - it might be a few days before it is this warm again.
The region has been bathed in sunshine since early this morning, with temperatures reaching a high of 19 degrees in both Invercargill and Gore.
The MetService predicts the warm weather will continue for the rest of the day, falling to an overnight high of 7 degrees in Invercargill and 8 degrees in Eastern Southland, before cooling off again tomorrow.
The temperature in Invercargill is expected to drop to a high of 15 degrees tomorrow, with fine spells and a chance of afternoon showers, before hitting a high of 17 degrees again on Friday.
However, the forecast for the weekend is not too flash - highs of 14 degrees and rain are expected on both Saturday and Sunday, the MetService says.
The rain is expected to hang around until Thursday, next week.
In Gore, the forecast is nearly identical - lower temperatures tomorrow, with some showers, before rain sets in on Saturday.
Rain will also follow warm temperatures of 18 and 19 degrees in Wanaka, setting in on Saturday. It is expected to clear there by Wednesday. However, it will be wet and warm, with forecast temperatures expected to hover about 20 degrees.
Queenstown will also fare a bit better than the deep south, the MetService says, with temperatures remaining in the high teens until showers arrive on Saturday, before the temperature reaches 19 degrees on Monday.
