A 17-year-old male who was shot while hunting on a Southland farm during the early hours of Monday was discharged from Southland Hospital yesterday, police say.
Detective Dougall Henderson, of Invercargill, said the teen underwent surgery before recovering in hospital after being shot and injured by a hunting companion.
Police were interviewing witnesses.
The victim and associates were spotlighting for deer on a farm near Orepuki, in western Southland.
Mr Henderson said police were hoping to complete preliminary investigations in the coming days.
"We are speaking to a few more witnesses and people who were present at the incident," he said.
Mr Henderson said once police had spoken to all the witnesses a decision would be made whether to lay charges.
