Three people were taken to Southland Hospital after a car crash in Dipton tonight.

St John communications spokesman Paul Burns said it appeared three people were taken by ambulance to Invercargill, but their injuries did not appear to be severe.

The group were reported as being ''up and walking around'' after the single-car crash, about 6.05pm.

It appeared the vehicle had come off the road and gone into a ditch, at the intersection of Break Neck and English roads, Mr Burns said.
