Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in relation to an alleged attack on a woman at her Dunedin home yesterday.
Detective Inspector Kelvin Hooper, of Dunedin, said the man faces a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in Dunedin District Court today.
The Dunedin man was also likely to face further serious charges, Mr Hooper said.
Police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
Mr Hooper said police and ESR were continuing to examine the scene at the woman's Duncan St home today. The examination was expected to take a further two days to complete, he said.
Police have yet to speak again with the victim, who remains in Dunedin Hospital recovering from surgery she underwent yesterday.
''There are still inquiries to complete in relation to the incident. Police thank members of the public who provided information," Mr Hooper said.
"Given that the matter is now before the court, police are unable to comment further at this time.''
