A Dunedin cyclist killed by a truck yesterday was a senior lecturer at the University of Otago's Faculty of Dentistry.

Dr Li Hong He, also known as Chris, was 34. He specialised in biomechanics, dental materials, and dental hard tissues.

Dr He died following a crash in Cumberland St, State Highway 1, Dunedin, about 10am yesterday. He was was travelling north in Cumberland St at the time of the incident.

Police have been able to speak with the driver of a truck and trailer which was in the vicinity at the time.

Dr He was married and had two young children.
