A 31-year-old man has reportedly suffered spinal injuries in a paragliding crash on the Crown Range, near Queenstown.

A man at the scene tonight said it appeared the paraglider had crashed shortly after taking off from the launch point at the top of the "zig-zag" section of the road.

"It looks like he has taken off then veered off to the left and hit a bank,'' the man said.

The paraglider was flown to Queenstown Hospital with moderate back injuries, a St Johan ambulance spokesman said.
