Southland's sweet success at Te Papa
The Seriously Good Chocolate Company in Invercargill has been working with Te Papa in Wellington to create themed chocolate that will be sold at the museum.
Owner Jane Stanton said the museum already sold some of her products but she was particularly proud of the branded box.
The packaging of Seriously Good Chocolates was designed by Te Papa to reflect the museum's venue brand. She wanted to keep business in Southland, so the boxes, which arrived at the shop yesterday, were printed in the region.
"I have never been this excited about a box of my chocolates."
She uses the products of other small firms in the region in her chocolate and recommends them to Te Papa.
"Southland's small businesses are successfully working together to enhance our business but also the Southland brand," she said.
Ms Stanton first approached the museum about six years ago about stocking wine chocolates.
The museum now stocks 12 of the company's products but has also "started to work with other Southland businesses".
Te Papa chefs had created recipes for Southland-based products to be used and sold at the museum. Invercargill Brewery beer would be used in its vinegar, while Southland seaweed company Kiwi Wakame would supply ingredients for an oyster crumb to be sold at the museum during the Bluff Oyster Festival next year.
The Te Papa themed chocolate and Seriously Good Chocolate Christmas Kiwiana range will be launched at a Southland food expo on Wednesday at Te Papa. A selection of Southland food firms will be there to showcase products, to be cooked by Te Papa chefs.
